    "How do I keep my EV battery healthy for 10+ years?" — Modern lithium-ion EV batteries are remarkably durable, but how you charge and drive can swing degradation by 30–40% over a decade. Here are eight habits backed by real data.

    1. Live in the 20–80% Zone

    Daily charging from 20% to 80% causes the least cell stress. The top and bottom 20% put the most pressure on the chemistry. Charge to 100% only before long trips.

    2. Skip the DC Fast Charge When You Can

    DC fast charging generates heat. Heat is the #1 enemy of lithium-ion cells. Keep DC sessions to ~20% of your charging. AC at home for the rest.

    3. Avoid Charging in the Sun at Midday

    Charging compounds heat from ambient + cell self-heating. In Indian summer, park in shade or charge after sundown when possible. Modern battery cooling helps, but doesn't eliminate the issue.

    4. Don't Leave the Car at 100% for Days

    If you're not driving for a week, leave the car at 50–60% SoC. Long storage at high SoC accelerates calendar aging.

    5. Don't Run It to Zero

    6. Use Scheduled Charging

    Schedule charging to finish just before you leave, not as soon as you plug in. This minimises time spent at high SoC and lets the car use the grid intelligently.

    7. Soft Acceleration, Smooth Regen

    Hard launches and aggressive regen both pull/push large currents that heat cells. Smooth driving doubles as battery care.

    8. Get the Annual Battery Health Check

    Most OEMs now offer a battery state-of-health (SoH) report at your annual service. Track it year-over-year. A healthy EV should retain 90%+ capacity at 5 years and 80%+ at 8 years.

    What "Bad" Looks Like

    Owners who DC-charge 80% of the time, regularly charge to 100% and park in the sun see 12–15% capacity loss in 3 years. Owners who follow this list typically see 5–8% loss in 3 years. The difference is worth lakhs at resale time.
